Which kitchen gadgets do you really need?
Do you want to know what you could or should have in your kitchen to make healthy eating less of a chore? Well here I share with you what I have and recommend to make your life easier AND healthier.
I totally love my Magimix food processor. I like to do big batches of foods – why make a liter of soup when you can make 8 liters and freeze them for the future! And of course my stuff is heavy on the veg. This beauty makes chopping, cutting, and mixing a total breeze.
|Much like my Magimix – I wouldn’t want to be without my Vitamix blender. I’ve had other blenders but this one really does blend things thoroughly. I often have a breakfast smoothie and it’s really easy to blend in things like kale and spinach with yogurt, nuts and seeds and berries to make a really smooth delicious smoothie. Even the nuts and seeds can be ground down to a powder. My top tip is – start with nuts and seeds, add a little liquid, then nut butter or avocado and greens, then add fruit, then add more liquid. Pulsing in between each layer.
You can also make soups and ice cream in the Vitamix. It’s a very versatile blender.
This gorgeous little piece of kit doesn’t look like much and doesn’t cost much but is superb. I use a lot of fresh garlic in cooking – because it’s a great antiviral, antibacterial, liver-supporting food. But peeling garlic can be a real chore. Just using this silicone roll on the garlic easily takes off the covering of the clove and let’s you get on with it.
Again this is not an expensive piece of kit but does a lot to help you get more veg into your diet – which can be so tough to do. If you are trying cut down on carbs this can be a great tool too. I do like my courgetti!
If you’re not up to the Vitamix and want to do healthy smoothies then this is the kitchen gadget for you. It is a great piece of kit which doesn’t take up a lot of room and doesn’t take up a lot of space.
The Instant Pot Duo is a combo electric pressure cooker and slow cooker in one, depending on the settings you choose. Yes, it is a pricey piece of kit, but I love it. And if you trawl the internet for the communities, pages and blogs, you’ll find MANY people LOVE their Instant Pots and use them for all sorts of things, including making cakes! I love it because of the stainless steel durable design and that I feel it’s a safer pressure cooker than a stove top type. I can do brown rice in this in 20 minutes as well as “boil” a dozen eggs in 5 minutes. Replacement seals and accessories are easily found.
